This is Serious

RIP ANGIE ZAPATA.

I'll have more on this later, right now, I'm freaking out about this whole thing! The death, the current victem blame going on, the seeming willingness to believe the murderer's story fully...

My god!! What I want to do right now is have a cry, and wish there was something I could do to help this young woman's family.

I know. It was a heart wrenching story. I'm just so sick and tired of this shit.

Its very sad but it doesn't surprise me. It is a another sad commentary on how people are veiwed. If you think this is bad just wait for his lawyer spin on Angie. And how his client is so inocent. Even though he is 32 with a 18yr old. I wonder how many priors the guy has. I don't know, hopefully this opens up some new dialogue and gets people to think more. And her death won't be so wasted. One can only hope

A couple of things about this story have me wondering: first of all, the only living witness we have to this murder is the killer himself. He's fabricated this story about discovering some photos of Angie in her previous life, and went nuts after she left him alone in her place.

First, who is going to leave a date (or whatever - a stranger) alone in their place while they run errands. Not too likely. Second, I don't know of ANY T person who leaves old photos of themselves around their place; isn't that a part of ourselves that we want to leave behind?

My point is that the killer is free to fabricate any kinda story he thinks may help him get out of the consequences of his misdeed, anything to place the blame on, of course, the victim. Yea, it was her fault, "she was asking for it".

Cue the tired, old transphobia defence...

I'm disgusted with my people having to be victim to those misfits whose agressions we have to deal with, and sometimes pay the ultimate price. Justice won't bring Angie back, but hopefully this animal will be put away where he can't bother society again.

(Reserving anger until after the wheels of Justice have a go at this creep).

rioTgirl,

I'm sorry I missed this story in my link round up - I'll add both your posts in a few minutes.

I totally checked over here a couple times, to, after following trackbacks.

Tracee, another element of his story that disturbs me is how the media glosses over the fact that he describes sexually assaulting Angie to feel up her genitals. It's almost as if the assault isn't seen as legitimately a sexual assault.

But yeah, I've been trying to make that point a lot - I can't believe how many people are willing to take Andrade's story at face value and respond on that basis.

Lisa, thanks for visiting. I absolutely love your blog!!

tracee - I can't agree more with what you have posted.

strongback - Well the guy has been convicted on a few other crimes in the past. I honestly do think this will open up more dialogue. It's gut-wrenching that issues like this are what get people to think outside their own worlds. It's much like Matthew Shepherd started getting people to see how anti-gay violence is real a deadly
